What specialty trade estimators actually need from software
Takeoff is quantities from the drawings. The estimate is the number those quantities become, plus labor, equipment, and the quotes around them. Specialty trade estimators need both on the same desk, then the hours that sit around them.
Tender review is the reading: dates, conflicts, exclusions, and scope gaps cited to the page that proves them. Leveling is the vendor side — stated totals reconciled to itemized sums, exclusions lifted out of the fine print. The approval gate is the send. During training, nothing leaves without a recorded human decision. Money stays integer-cent code, so any total can be recomputed by hand.

Who this page is for
The primary user is the estimator or preconstruction lead at a commercial MEP contractor, or at an adjacent specialty trade: roofing, structural steel. You work a bid from an ITB landing in Outlook to a submitted proposal, usually against a hard close, across a few dozen documents and addenda, with vendor quotes still arriving late. The secondary reader is the owner or VP who signs the number and carries a missed clause into buyout.
This is not a page for a general contractor running a bid board. BuildingConnected, PlanHub, Dodge, ConstructConnect, and SmartBid are invite sources. They connect. If you came here looking for software that shops subcontractors, you are on the wrong desk. If you came here looking for a consumer app, that is not this product. The work happens on a trade estimating desk.
What the day actually is
Intake is an email and a decision you may already have made in the hallway. The set is longer than the hours you have. The front end is the part nobody was assigned. Bid/no-bid is a conversation that should have used the last three losses with this GC and did not, because those losses live in a folder. Takeoff and estimate have a home. Then the rest of the week is RFQs, follow-ups, a leveling sheet built too late, a proposal assembled from the last similar job, and a bid form that asks which addenda you received.
ArosBid is built around that day. Takeoff and estimate are in the product. The feature comparison with Trimble AutoBid is ArosBid vs Trimble AutoBid. Intake recognizes the invitation. Review cites findings to page, including the front end. Bid/no-bid is scored against your record after that reading. Vendor RFQs are drafted from the reviewed set and do not send themselves. Leveling reconciles totals as code. Budget lands in Excel. The proposal is assembled from decisions you recorded. Readiness checks bonding, addenda, and gates. After submission, buyout and debrief stay in the same workspace so the next bid is not priced from memory.

What it will not take from you
Judgement about whether a conflict is real, whether a GC is worth chasing, and what risk to carry is the thing that took twenty years to build. The product does not replace that. It replaces the hours spent hunting for the sentence, adding the column, and wondering whether the RFQ went out. During training, the mail connector will not release anything that does not cite your approval. Isolated instance. Microsoft Entra ID. Money is integer-cent code. Those are constraints, not slogans.
We do not claim to replace STACK, McCormick, or FastEST. We do not publish customer names, savings percentages, or a headcount. Price is quoted per deployment. The demo pursuit, Riverside Office Tower, is fictional and labeled as such. If a claim is not on this page or on What is ArosBid, do not infer it from the screenshots.
Leaving QuickPen and other legacy estimating tools
QuickPen estimating software is the name older mechanical desks still type. The product that search usually means is Trimble AutoBid. We do not publish a separate QuickPen page. The comparison lives with AutoBid.
Quick Bid is a different product. The names sit next to each other in a search box. They are not the same software. Quick Bid builds the estimate, usually from On-Screen Takeoff quantities. AccuBid builds the electrical or mechanical estimate from assemblies, labor, and material. Those seats are sold to produce the number. The invitation set, the late vendor quotes, and the send still sit outside the file.
Takeoff and estimate are in ArosBid, on the same desk as the bid after. If you are leaving Trimble AutoBid, start at Trimble AutoBid. The feature table is vs AutoBid. If the seat is Quick Bid, read the QuickBid alternative. If it is AccuBid, read the AccuBid alternative. We do not publish a database import, a cutover calendar, or a customer count. Bring the pursuit you are pricing. The walkthrough is how you check the rest.
Where to go next
The named AutoBid comparison is vs AutoBid. The process comparison against a manual desk is Compare. The stages are on Platform. Tender review, missed addenda, bid/no-bid, vendor RFQ, and leveling each have their own page because those are the searches a desk actually runs the week a bid is due. Book a live demo when you want to watch the gates, not the adjectives.
